Mahatma's personal belongings
ONE metal rimmed glasses
ONE pocket watch
ONE pair of sandal
ONE plate, and
ONE bowl
Purchaser - Vijay Mallya
Price - Rs.9.3 crore and lots of controversy
This raises lots of question.
ONE
A person or a family always like to inherit or keep or preserve the memorabilia of one's family and fore fathers at "Any Cost". However "Any Cost" differs from person to person, family to family. It largely depends on two things - first the emotional attachment one has with the material or the person, and the second ones strength to inherit, preserve the memorabilia. This includes the financial strength. Of the two, the first i.e. sentiment is essential and has greater priority as without sentiment any such material looses its charm and value.
Mahatma is Father of the Nation, hence we all Indians are his family members. So the first question comes up is does his Family members have any attachment with the father? I have.
TWO
Stronger the sentiment, stronger is the desire to inherit the memorabilia. But if one doesn't have the required strength to get them, they try to hide their weakness under the pretext of "Not worth its value" or similar other moral grounds. But the tragedy is if one member of the family posses the required strength and thus succeeds in inheriting the same why others makes noise instead of clapping?
THREE
The owner of the memorabilia Mr.Otis had promissed to donate them to Indian Government if the later agrees to step up its budgetry allocation for health care of the poors of India AND to promote the Gandhian Philosophy i.e. peace and non voilance outside India. The Government was not in a position to make any such commitment. However some time back the Government have written of Rs.1,00,000 crores - Rs.30,000 crores by reducing Service Tax and Rs.70,000 crores by writing off loans to farmers. The eyes of the Government is always on the vote banks than anything else.
While Otis has put up his demand, in one way he had said , you slumdog first become millionaire then talk to me. Mallya and Doshi replied to him that we are not slumdog and are not millionaire but are billionaire. I am proud of them for their fitting reply.
FOUR
One very interesting observation. The two sons who fought for the Fathers memorabilia one is Liquor Baron and the other is promoter of Criket. Both doesn't zeal with the Mahtma's philosphy. But at the same time both of them had cried out at the top of their voice " Mahatma! I love you Dad." Gandhians and other sons of the Father should feel proud of these brothers.
FIVE
What Gandhains will do if Grand and Great Grand Sons of the Mahatma will forget him? Hence the way it is important to spend resources to spread His philosophies, similarly its important to spend to keep Mahatma alive in the minds of his family. Its required to be loudly spoken that if a Liquor Baron can spend such huge resources, if a cricketer has so much love for him how much others should have ? Taking this as an example we need to encourage all others to spend resources and follow Gandhian philosophy.

I completely agree. I was thinking what could be the most important legacy of Mahatama we could give to your Children? Answer is mere a Rs 50 worth in commercial terms "My Experiments with truth" , we must surely ask them to read this book. His true legacy is there.
